Fantails - Nga Piwakawaka
It all began we we saw a fantail flitting around in the bush surrounding Putikitiki. The children were delighted to see it, and were running back and forth trying to find it in the bush.
Back in the classroom we explored fantails more.
We did some sketching:
We made some fantails at the making table
We learnt a song about a fantail:
Here is the song if you want to sing it at home: Cheeky Little Fantail

Today we had a special assembly to celebrate Matariki.
We sang our Te Aroha song on the stage in front of the school.
Look how fabulous we are!

Maui and the Sun - Tama Nui te Ra
Following on from Matariki, there has been a strong interest in the Maui stories. In particular the children love Maui and the Sun.
Here we are making a big Tama Nui te Ra. Look at all the beautiful koru patterns on him.
